Thieves used Digger to steal ATM

The combined fall-out from the global financial crisis and the severe recession here in Ireland is leading to ever more bizarre forms of crime. The latest case has been reported yesterday in the north-west of Co. Kildare.

There some ruthless thieves used a mechanical digger to steal a 'hole in the wall' cash dispensing machine (ATM) from a local restaurant.
The unusual raid took place in the early hours of yesterday morning at Mother Hubbard's restaurant in Moyvalley.

As yet unknown thieves stole a yellow digger from a nearby field, where it was parked, and drove it into the restaurant building, causing considerable damage as well as dislodging the ATM.

It is not known how much money was in the machine at the time, and the Garda Síochána (Irish police) is investigating this vandalous act of stealing money.

With no signs to an end of the recession and crime being rampant and out of control in Ireland, one can expect to hear of more cases like this in the future.

Not schadenfreude, but I'm glad to hear that we are not the only place where it is said that crime is rampant and out of control!
